MESSAGE FROM THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
The Tropical Forage Breeding Staff of Embrapa Beef Cattle is pleased to announce the 2nd International Symposium on Forage Breeding, to be held in Campo Grande, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, from November 9th to 12th, 2009.
Breeding of tropical and temperate forage species in Brazil involves a few groups and it is relatively recent, with emphasis in the past 30 years. The involvement of interdisciplinary teams is essential in the attainment of positive results in the breeding of forage plants, due to the complexity of objectives and selection criteria for the various target species. In this context, the 2nd SIMF has invited national and international renowned researchers. The program includes a visit to the experiments at Embrapa Beef Cattle to let participants discuss some of the themes presented at the conferences. The poster sessions will allow the presentation of recent results in forage breeding, with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students.
The objective of this Symposium is to create an environment for debating relevant issues relating to forage breeding and to update the participants on the progress made in the last three decades. New areas of cooperation, strategies and means to reinforce the importance of forages in the animal production industry are expected thus consolidating Brazil as an ever increasing leader in animal production in the world.
